Stone Memorials Boarder God's Path (Gen. 31:48, 49)
S.
Genesis 31:48, 49
Laban said, "This monument of stones will be a witness, beginning now, between you and me." (That's why it is called Galeed--Witness Monument.) It is also called Mizpah (Watchtower) because Laban said, "GOD keep watch between you and me when we are out of each other's sight.
O.
Jacob had his family pile up stones along the road to help Laban and Jacob remember their promise to each other. It was also used as a boundry. Neither of them were to go beyond these stones so as to keep the truce between them. It was the visiual evidence of their truce. It was also used as a place to watch from in order to be alerted what threats or dangers could be coming.
A.
I need to rememember what God has done for me (a memorial to God in my past). I need to remember my boundries of the present in order to keep me from evil, right now. I need to keep watch for what dangers may be ahead in my future. These are all tools God gives me to keep me on His path...to walk the Chrisitian walk; a pile of stones/memories for proof of His works in my life. A pile of stones used to show me the way, keeping me inside the boarder of God's pathway; a watchtower, made from these piles, to warn me what is ahead.
P.
Thank You, Lord, for Your proof in my life. Help me to always recall what You have done for me. Thank You for showing me the tools to keep my life on Your path of life...my christian walk. I will practice remembering what You have done for me and build my stone memorial to remember Your ways.
